The Uvea is a vascular layer of the eye that is made up of the iris, ciliary body, andchoroid. Inflammation of this layer is called uveitis. Uveitis usually occurs wheninflammation travels inward from the eye's outermost layer, known as the sclera.
Possible causes of uveitis are infection, injury, or an autoimmune or inflammatory disease. Many times a cause can't be identified. Uveitis can be serious, leading to permanent vision loss. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent complications and preserve your vision.

A common treatment is eye drops that ease the inflammation. If uveitis is a result of an infection, antibiotics or antiviral medication may be prescribed.
